Currently ALL of our classes are being held online. We hope to run some smaller size in-person classes this Fall 2020 - more info coming soon!
Every baby is born wired for music and all children benefit from early exposure to music and movement. In our Babies Only classes, we’ve created a warm, welcoming environment that supports your baby’s natural musicality—and their overall development. You’ll learn lots of ways to interact musically with your infant, and as you sing, laugh, and learn together, you’ll bond with your child and the other new parents in your class. This is a one-session class, after which babies and their grownups attend mixed-age classes. The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. Ba
bies must be under seven months old on the first day of class. Most babies in this program range from 3-5 months at the start of the session. We recommend infants older than seven months register for mixed-age classes.
What age are the infants in a babies class? Infants range from only a few weeks to eight months in this program! Most infants in the Babies program are non-mobile for at least the beginning of the semester. If your baby is crawling before the start of the semester you may want to consider a mixed-age class. Feel free to contact the office to discuss: (845) 255-6415.
My baby is under 8 months. Should I take a babies class or a mixed age class. What’s the difference? The Babies class is structured in much the same way as a mixed-age class. In both classes your teacher will lead you through a variety of activities, facilitating fun and creative ways for you to interact musically with your baby. The main difference lies in parent education. Because the infants are non-mobile, there is a calmer energy in this class which allows the teacher more opportunities to explain the ‘whys’ behind the ‘whats’ and to point out emerging musical behaviors.
At what age should I start class with my baby? Now! Babies learn music the same way they learn language; by being immersed in it. Just as it is never too early to start talking to your baby, it is never too early to start singing with your baby.

Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because it fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy observing and imitating the older ones; older children benefit from singing to, moving with and being appreciated by the younger ones. Each child is given the freedom to participate as he or she chooses, without being burdened by age-specific expectations, and siblings can attend together. The mixed-age format is central to the Music Together® approach, which is specifically designed for early childhood - a time when children use the magical process of play to essentially teach themselves the things they need to learn.
In-Person Music Together Classes
A group of six to twelve children and their parents and caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week to enjoy a variety of playful musical activities. The Music Together teacher guides the class through traditional and original songs and chants with a broad mix of tonalities, meters and cultural styles. A dozen experiences are included in each class including singing, small and large movement, instrument play, props, dancing, improvisation and more. The approach is fun and interactive and incorporates informal instruction, allowing the children to engage at their developmental level. It's a relaxed atmosphere that invites and encourages participation by both children and adults, regardless of musical skill, talent or training. In a Music Together class, families rediscover the pleasure and educational value of informal, homemade musical experiences.
Rhythm Kids is our new music, movement and drumming program that helps children complete the pathway of early childhood music development from birth to age 8. Rhythm Kids is segmented into two classes, one for children ages 4-5 and the other for children in kindergarten, first and second grades.
Kids know what they like. For four- through eight-year-olds, it's telling silly stories, playing games (with rules, of course!) and sharing new things. Our interactive Rhythm Kids Online classes tap into how big kids are wired to learn. Music games, rhythm pattern play, drumming, and more engage their creativity - and inspire them to explore their musicality in new ways, both during and outside class.
This Fall 2020, children will have class online 2x weekly for 25 minutes. A drum of some sort (ideally a djembe) will be required and we can help you find a Djembe through a few vendors where discounts are available for RK Families. Parent attendance is optional but encouraged. All families will receive a songbook, CD, download as well as access to interactive online video tutorials. If you've taken Music Together® classes, some of the music will be the same but explored in new ways! However unique to Rythm Kids are a whole new collection of animal themed rhythmic songs and patterns.
